Glacier Bay again. A pond in the woods.Photography by Julia.
Okay, just a few bonus pictures from previous days to wrap up this Alaska thing. This was at Glacier Bay.
Sunday morning, before we left, I had to have my picture taken in the fireweed. This picture isn't even the best I've got for showing how dwarfed I am by this stuff. It's beautiful and it's everywhere. That day, it was also soaking wet from the rain, thus I got soaked crashing through it.
Finally, saturday evening, we went out to Anna's house and had a campfire on the beach. It was so lovely. Left to right, Anna, Julia's cousin Bailey, Julia, and Claire, a friend from college.
Jules at the shrine.
These marbled murrelets swam by the shrine. I didn't know birds swam in v's.
After Mt. Roberts, we drove out to the Shrine of Saint Therese. It's just gorgeous out there! You can't even see this building at first because it's hidden by trees. See http://www.shrineofsainttherese.org
On our way back down, we saw this bear. I know, it's not a great picture, but it is a bear. I saw a bear while I was in Alaska, so I'm happy.
On our hike, we saw a marmot. These are not like Spokane Marmots. This is a hoary marmot This guy is apparently used to the hikers because he just hung around for about 15 minutes.
The view from the top...where the cruise ships could keep going if they didn't stop in Juneau. Only when the tide is out you can walk across the channel, so maybe that's not such a good idea.
This, I believe, is where the cruise ships come in from the ocean. I could be making that up.
This is Galileo, though apparently she is a she. Galileo has a broken jaw so she sits in an owl pen at the top of the tram as an example of a predatory bird.
On Saturday, we took the tram up to the top of Mt. Roberts. This is downtown Juneau on the way up.
